Frit Flagey up for grabs to highest bidder

19:30 05/03/2020

Want to run a friterie? How about one of the most popular friteries in the world?

The municipality of Ixelles is accepting bids to manage the much-loved Frit Flagey on the eponymous square. Frit Flagey is one of many public food stalls owned by the city and put out to bid among private parties.

Entrepreneurs put in a bid to be allowed to run the stand for, in this case, seven years. From there the city stays out of it, and the private party makes all the decisions about product, price, etc and takes home the profits.

Be warned: You have stiff competition. Regular customers to Frit Flagey will know Thierry De Geyt, who has been winning this public tender for nearly 30 years. And he’s not giving up; he plans to bid again this time around.

Five others have so far requested information about the bid process, a representative from the municipality told Bruzz. Anyone wanting to put in a bid to run Frit Flagey for seven years must do so by 20 April. Information is available from the municipality.

The current contract runs until the end of June.
