First World War occupation exhibition to open in Brussels

09:40 28/01/2014

The Museum of the City of Brussels is preparing to launch an exhibition to mark the beginning of First World War, but with a different approach than other centenary events around Belgium, and Europe. The city’s museum located in the Grand Place/ Grote Markt, also known as Maison du Roi or Broodhuis, will shed light on the first German occupation of Brussels from 1914-1918. The “Brussels on German Time” exhibition will allow visitors a unique glimpse into life during the occupation, a life different from the one during the battles being waged in the field.

The exhibition will open its doors to the public on 21 August and run through to the beginning of 2015. But in the lead up to the summer opening, those interested in the Brussels’ occupation can also visit a website launched by the museum to coincide with the exhibition. Available in French, Flemish, and English, the site “Brussels at War” provides a gateway into the period through stories and photos.
