Family fundraiser: Mother’s Day garden party at Stonemanor expat store on Sunday

Cream teas, Cornish pasties, fish ‘n’ chips, Pimm’s cocktails and a magic show are all on the menu at Stonemanor’s annual Garden Party on 10 May from 10.00 to 17.00.

The fundraiser is collecting cash this year for the street nurse organisation Infirmières du rue, which provides frontline help to the homeless in Brussels and Liège.  

Falling once again on Mother’s Day in Belgium, the garden party is supported by the Brussels British Community Association (BBCA) and offers entertainment for all ages.

While the popular scone, cream and strawberry jam cream teas are free, visitors are spoilt for choice with other British-themed specialities.

The Simply British Fish and Chip Truck is serving its seaside favourites from 12.00 to 16.00, and Pascoe’s Pasties, courtesy of the BBCA, will be dishing up a choice of beef or veggie oven warm savoury pasties.

On a sweeter note, visitors can tuck into cake and seasonal delicacy strawberries and cream. On the refreshment front, there is a bar selling beer, wine, cider and softs, and it would not be a garden party without Tim’s Pimm’s stand. The BBCA chairman concocts refreshing cocktails with a non-alcoholic option available.

Musical entertainment all day includes live bands and singers, plus star act, Jonas De Bruyn. The illusionist is a Belgian Champion of Magic and a Belgium’s Got Talent finalist who returns after a crowd-thrilling appearance last year.

A full programme of children’s activities is organised by local sport and fitness club, David Lloyd Sterrebeek, including competitions and face painting. 

The prize raffle has a selection of goodies up for grabs, from Champagne and Trappist beer to a Stonemanor voucher, and a surprise gift from David Lloyd. Two free places on English Youth Theatre (EYT) courses for 2026-27 will also feature in a ‘silent auction’ .

All the proceeds of the food and drink stands, as well as the raffle, go to this year’s designated charity.
