European Commission launches its annual Interrail offer to 18-year-olds

10:22

The European Commission has once again opened applications for its DiscoverEU initiative, aiming to help 18-year-old Europeans discover Europe.

As part of the programme, more than 900 Belgians will receive an Interrail pass to travel across any of 33 countries by train. In total, 40,000 passes will be given away throughout Europe.

Launched in 2018 and part of the Erasmus+ programme for 2021–2027, the initiative aims to encourage international mobility, cultural curiosity and the learning of new languages, whilst fostering the development of essential skills for young people’s future.

Applications are open from 8 to 22 April.

Young Belgians born between 1 July 2007 and 30 June 2008 will have to answer five questions about Europe as part of the selection process to win an Interrail pass.

Participants will also receive the European Youth Card, entitling them to discounts on cultural activities, local transport, accommodation and dining.
