€59 for a three-course meal at Michelin-star restaurants

10:35 18/09/2018

Those aged 18 to 30 can sign up for a chic meal at a democratic price during Flanders’ Jong Keukengeweld, or Kitchen Rebels, campaign. The event that promotes the region’s finest young chefs offers multi-course lunches and dinners for a set price in the month of October.

Young diners can already make reservations for one of the dozens of restaurants in Flanders and Brussels taking part. All the restaurants are run by young chefs. The campaign not only helps support chefs starting out with their own restaurants but introduces young people to fine dining that might otherwise be unaffordable.

The campaign is in its 10th year and has more chefs involved than ever before. The chefs are chosen by a jury of sector professionals headed by celebrity chef Jan Buytaert.

Nearly 70 top chefs, “all with a passion for local products and Flemish gastronomy will once again spoil thousands of young people,” said tourism minister Ben Weyts. “Because of this campaign, more young people are finding their way to top Flemish kitchens.”

Some of the better-known restaurants chosen for the campaign are Fleur de Sel in Kasterlee,  Antwerp province, Volta in Ghent and Restaurant ’t Verschil in Hoogslede, West Flanders. All 67 restaurants in the group are offering a three-course meal, drinks included, for €49. If the restaurant has a Michelin star or a Gault&Millau score of at least 15, the price rises to €59.

Tables are filling fast, so anyone who wants to reserve should do so right away. But be warned: Don’t try to cheat. ID cards will be checked if the restaurant thinks you’re older than 30. Those who meet the age requirement might be able to bring a guest older than 30; it’s up to the restaurant.
