€5 billion in Flemish funding to improve Brussels ring
The Flemish government is investing almost €5 billion in the renovation of the Brussels ring road over the next 15 years, according to Flemish mobility minister Annick De Ridder (N-VA).
The Flemish Brabant province will get €4.8 billion between 2025 and 2040 for the renovation, including funding for widening the ring road and building new viaducts.
The province will also receive €264 million for the airport tram to Brussels Airport after the announcement that the express tram along the A12 would be scrapped.
“We are now giving the go-ahead to look for alternatives for sustainable mobility in Flemish Brabant,” said the minister.
The mobility investments, known as the Integrated Investment Programme (GIP), will carry on until 2027 with a plan for the years after to be drawn up later.
De Ridder said she was committed to ensuring a balanced distribution across Flanders that by 2029 will amount to €2.2 billion per year.
