A man who posted a video on Facebook of himself speeding at 234kph on a motorway near Liège has been hit with a six-month ban and a €2,400 fine.
The 30-year-old's lawyer had argued in court that the video was not his - and that his client was "passionate about cars" and had merely reposted a video that he had found on Instagram.
The clip was published on Facebook in April 2018. It shows a BMW's speedometer reaching 234kph on the A604 motorway in Seraing, Liège province.
A judge in Liège said there was enough evidence to prove that the defendant was indeed the driver.
As well as a six-month driving ban, he was ordered to pay €2,400 - reduced by two-thirds if the driver commits no other offences within three years.
