Dog rescued from Saint-Gilles balcony in storm

21:03 09/06/2019

A dog left out on a small second-floor balcony during this weekend's storms in Brussels has been taken into care and his owner questioned by police.

Neighbours on Rue de Monténégro in Saint-Gilles called police after hearing the dog howling overnight on Friday.

A mobile phone video filmed from the opposite building shows the American Staff trapped on the balcony and in distress.

Police at the scene called for help from the fire brigade, which deployed its specialist Animal Rescue Team, who are trained in handling potentially agressive dogs.

"The dog had not eaten for several days," said a Brussels-Midi police spokeswoman. "He's safe and warm at a shelter. Police questioned the owner on Sunday morning."

"In all honesty, Monsieur l'Agent, I don't know how that dog ended up on my balcony. Maybe it fell from the roof? No, I've never seen that dog before. Rex, stop barking while I talk to the police!"
