De Lijn takes delivery of five fuel cell buses

09:50 14/05/2014

In Mechelen yesterday, bus manufacturer Van Hool unveiled its first hydrogen-fuelled bus, the first of its kind in Belgium to be put into regular use. The first five models of the bus will be operated by De Lijn in Antwerp province.

De Lijn paid €6.5 million for the fleet of five fuel cell buses, which are very quiet and emit only water vapour. "As a public company, we have to set an example, and that includes respecting the Flemish Climate Plan. With the support of the Flemish Region and European Union, we can make a significant contribution with these buses,” said Director General of De Lijn, Roger Kesteloot, who received the keys in a symbolic gesture in the presence of Flemish Minister-President Kris Peeters.

If they really cared about the environment they would do something about so many buses driving around with no passengers - "geen dienst".
