Contest offers 900 free Interrail passes for young Belgians
Some 900 young Belgians could receive a free Interrail pass allowing them to travel through some 30 European countries thanks to the DiscoverEU initiative from the European Commission.
Belgians born between 1 July 2006 and 30 June 2007 are invited to submit their applications between 2 April and 16 April 2025 via the European Youth Portal website.
The candidates will have to answer five questions on Europe, its history or its culture, which will help to decide the winners.
“Since 2018, DiscoverEU has enabled 18-year-olds to discover Europe in a flexible, sustainable, and affordable way,” the programme said in announcing this year’s Erasmus+ initiative.
“The programme aims to promote international mobility, cultural curiosity, and language learning. Beyond the adventure of travel, this initiative fosters open-mindedness, independence, European citizenship values, and essential skills for young people's future.”
Winners will also receive the European Youth Card, which grants access to discounts on cultural activities, local transport, accommodation, dining, and more.
They can also join a special Facebook group with more than 100,000 members sharing travel tips and stories.
“This Erasmus+ initiative allows young Europeans to explore Europe by train while enjoying new experiences,” the announcement reads.
“Travellers will get to discover breathtaking cities and landscapes, whether by the beach, in the mountains, or on an exciting city trip, there’s something for everyone.”
