Citizens determine speed camera locations

11:14 01/04/2014

Yesterday the federal police launched a campaign inviting citizens to go online and tell the police where they see a need for speed cameras. As of 17.00 yesterday, the website www.ikflitsmee.be of the Belgian Road Safety Institute (IBSR/BIVV) received requests for speed cameras at 10,290 locations.

The federal police calls the campaign "a great success". "This confirms that people want to be involved in keeping speeding in check," says Peter De Waele of the federal police. The final list of locations will be passed on to the 110 police zones  in question, where the chief of police will decide which areas to monitor. In Brussels, the street with the most requests for a speed camera was Rue de la Loi/Wetstraat.
