Charity fundraiser: Fun for all the family at BBCA Midsummer garden fête on 16 June

Join Belgium’s British community for a celebration of summer at the Royal Brussels Cricket Club in Lasne-Ohain on Sunday 16 June.

Following the success of its first garden party in 2018, the Brussels British Community Association is inviting expats and locals alike to enjoy a fun day out and raise funds for worthy causes. The BBCA supports four charities: CHS, the Wednesday Club, the Brussels branch of the Royal British Legion and the British Charitable Fund.

With a cricket match playing in the background (RBCC vs British Embassy in Belgium), the club house and grounds provide an idyllic setting for a summer fête. Providing additional entertainment are theatrical and musical performances by local am-dram groups, plus traditional games for children. 

Browse bric-a-brac and book stands and pick up some raffle tickets to have a chance at winning quality prizes donated by Maasmechelen Village, Amigo Hotel, Rouge Tomate, The Fry Group Belgium, KBC Brussels, Martins Hotels , Stonemanor, O'Reilly's and R Dumont et Fils Champagne from be Gauthier Champagne Importers.

It wouldn’t be a garden party without refreshments and high tea. Freshly-cut sandwiches, home-made cakes, savoury snacks and sizzling barbecue can all be washed down with mugs of tea and squash for the children, not forgetting cocktails for adults. The clubhouse will also be running a cash bar. 

“This is about friendship, family and fun, and everyone is welcome,” says BBCA chair Glenn Vaughan. “Life’s too serious. This’ll be a summer Sunday afternoon with a G&T bar and Pimm’s at very democratic prices, and an occasional shout from the cricket. What’s not to like?,” he adds.

There’s free entrance to the event and registration is not necessary. So book the date in your diary, gather friends and family and get ready to enjoy a thoroughly traditional British garden fête!
