Brussels university welcomes Wikipedia founder
Jimmy Wales, co-founder of the online non-profit encyclopaedia Wikipedia, is the guest of honour of the Ideafest seminar this Thursday at the Free University of Brussels (VUB). During the Ideafest, experts will discuss whether the free sharing of research results, so-called “open science”, could counter plagiarism and fraud. Topics on the agenda are privacy, peer review and contract research.
As co-founder of Wikipedia, Wales considerably democratised access to knowledge. He is currently helping the British government to set up an internet platform that will provide open access to British research.
Wales will be introduced by Flemish cyber-philosopher Michel Bauwens, who established the P2P Foundation, which unites people around the world in digital networks to consume, produce and innovate together.
