Brussels prepares 'tunnel party' for 15th Car-Free Sunday
Brussels mobility minister Pascal Smet on Friday launched the city's annual Mobility Week. The 15th edition of the event culminates in Car-Free Sunday on 20 September, which will be celebrated this year with a party in the tunnel at Porte de Namur between 12.00 and 18.00, writes brusselnieuws.be.
Mobility Week officially begins on 16 September, when 80 schools and 130 companies launch initiatives designed to encourage students, parents and staff to test alternatives to the car. On Car-Free Sunday, the Brussels-Capital Region will again transform into Europe's largest car-free zone for a day.
The highlight of this year's edition is the Mobilmix Tunnel Party, featuring a DJ bar and boat on wheels in the tunnel at Porte de Namur. "Every year we've had to disappoint people wanting to enter the tunnels, which remained closed for safety reasons,” says Minister Smet. “This year, however, we have taken the necessary precautions in order to obtain permission," said Minister Smet.
