Brussels Muzieque presents concert with the Zemlinsky Quartet on 10 May
Join Brussels Muzieque for an exceptional chamber music evening featuring the Zemlinsky Quartet at the Cercle Royal Gaulois’ Caryatide Hall in Brussels on 10 May.
The quartet is accompanied by artists from the chamber music collective: Nadja Nevolovitsch, Elina Buksha, Monika Mlynarczyk and Eduardo Tonietto in an evening devoted to large-scale masterpieces of the string ensemble repertoire.
The programme brings together Mendelssohn’s String Octet in E-flat major, Op. 20, one of the most dazzling and youthful achievements in chamber music history, and Schoenberg’s String Sextet Verklärte Nacht, a work of extraordinary emotional depth and harmonic richness that stands at the threshold between late Romanticism and musical modernity.
It also includes a special arrangement by Belgian composer Walter Hus of the Prelude from Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, reimagined for string sextet. This unique transcription distils Wagner’s iconic harmonic language into an intimate chamber setting, offering a fresh perspective on one of the most influential works in music history.
The concert is part of an international collaboration, with the same programme being performed the week before in Prague, strengthening artistic exchange and continuity between European concert stages.
An evening of rich sonorities, emotional intensity and expansive chamber music, the concert unites eight outstanding string players for a rare and immersive musical experience.
