Brussels to get 300 more security cameras this year
The addition this year of 300 surveillance cameras in Brussels streets will bring the total number of cameras in the city up to 1,000 by the end of 2015, report the Sudpresse newspapers.
It is up to the municipalities to decide whether to install additional cameras, where and how many. The only Brussels municipalities with no security cameras on its streets so far are Auderghem and Watermael-Boitsfort. Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, meanwhile, will have more than 200 cameras by the end of this year.
Residents seem to be more and more accepting of surveillance cameras in public areas, according to Molenbeek mayor Françoise Schepmans (MR). “Ten years ago, we received complaints against the installation of such cameras, while now people are actually requesting them."

Still not enough CCTV. I find it incredible that 2 communes have no CCTV--this is a disservice to their citizens. CCTV provides objective policing, a recording of what has happened in case of criminality, and the cost of CCTV far outweighs the cost of humans. Let the police be "on the beat", getting to know their neighborhoods, and being of great assistance.
