British community summer garden party at cricket club in Lasne on 23 June

15:53 12/06/2024

A ‘village green’ game of cricket will be playing in the background as the British community welcomes expats and locals to join them for a mid-summer celebration and charity fundraiser in Lasne-Ohain on Sunday 23 June.

The sixth edition of the bucolic garden party is organised by the Brussels British Community Association in the grounds of the Royal Brussels Cricket Club.

“Our priority is to bring people together and this is a great opportunity to do that. The party is not just for Brits – everyone is welcome,” insists BBCA chair Glenn Vaughan.

While the cricket thrills - or amuses the crowds - a feast of British-themed refreshments await. They include the popular Tim’s Pimm’s and mocktails bar, a BBQ (organised by Stonemanor) and a tea stand with a generous spread of home-made cakes (courtesy of St Paul’s church in Tervuren), as well as drinks available from the clubhouse cash bar.

This year, as a warm up to the summer Olympic games, adults are also invited to join in the sporting pursuits. Join in traditional games such as an egg and spoon race, three-legged race and a tug of war.

As ever, the garden party’s popular raffle offers prizes by generous donors and will raise much-needed cash for the BBCA’s local charities, CHSBCF, the Brussels Branch of the Royal British Legion and The Wednesday Club.

Although entrance is free, prior registration is helpful for organisers to cater for the party. The BBCA invites volunteers to join in the event as well as cake donations for the tea stand. Contact Nikki at if you can help out.

While some seating is provided, visitors are welcome to bring along their own folding chairs and picnic rugs. All the food and drink outlets (except the cricket club bar) require tickets, which can be purchased at the entrance (cash only).
