Belgium’s first cat cafe to open in Brussels

12:25 31/10/2014

The first cat cafe in Belgium will soon open its doors in the Brussels commune of Saint-Gilles. The concept of a cafe filled with cats for clients to pet and enjoy comes from Japan. The Brussels cafe is scheduled to open within two weeks, reports Brusselnieuws.be.

The name of the cafe is Le Chat Touille, a play on the word chatouiller, to tickle. "People who are unable to have a cat at home for some reason can come here for a cuddle," cafe founder Monika Jurczykowska told La Dernière Heure.

The cats come from an animal shelter where Jurczykowska worked as a volunteer. She points out that the cats can freely enter a separate area for some quiet time should they tire of all the human attention.

Le Chat Touille will serve Polish food and drink.
