Belgium in Top 15 of least corrupt countries
Belgium stands at number 15 on the list of the world's least corrupt countries, drawn up annually by Transparency International. TI's list covers politicians, police, the justice system and public services in 177 countries. In 70% of cases corruption is considered to be a “serious” problem.
None of the countries studied is absolutely free of corruption, according to TI's measure. However Denmark and New Zealand top the list as the least corrupt, sharing first place with a score of 91. Belgium held on to its score of 75 from last year, sharing 15th place with Hong Kong and Barbados. Among neighbouring countries, the Netherlands does best in eighth place, Luxembourg at nine, Germany at 12, the UK at 14 and France at 22.
The worst countries on the list are Afghanistan, North Korea and Somalia, each scoring only eight points.
