Belgian fruit growers fight frost

11:02 16/04/2014

Fruit growers across Belgium are doing everything they can to prevent night frost from affecting the blossoms of their trees which are now in full bloom. If the blossoms freeze, they could die, with disastrous consequences for the fruit harvest.

The farmers are using everything from braziers to helicopters to keep temperatures in the orchards above zero. A helicopter can help by flying low over the orchards, while the blades of the helicopter blow warm air down over the trees, minimising the risk of frost.
