Apple Pay coming to Belgium in May

11:52 09/03/2017

A day after Android Pay went live in Belgium, word got out today that Apple Pay will also come to Belgium on 2 May, according to the website MacGeneration. The service allows consumers to pay at a checkout using just their iPhone or Apple Watch.

MacGeneration bases its information on leaks from two Belgian banks. According to the website, an employee of CBC/KBC tweeted to a customer that Apple Pay will start in May, and Belfius told another customer by email that it would introduce a new way to pay on 2 May.

While rumours of Apple Pay's impending launch in Belgium have been doing the rounds for some time, this time it seems serious, as Apple has already translated and adapted its website about Apple Pay for the Belgian market.

The service went live on Tuesday in Ireland, and Italy and Germany are soon to follow suit. Apple Pay is already available in the UK, France, Spain, Russia and Switzerland.
