AB InBev to acquire SABMiller
The world's two largest brewers are about to become one, as Anglo-South African brewer SABMiller, the world number two, is being taken over by market leader Anheuser-Busch InBev. The Leuven-based brewery will have to come up with 44 pounds per share in order to buy out its biggest competitor.
AB InBev and SABMiller have reportedly reached an agreement on a takeover, following several refused bids in recent weeks. SABMiller, based in London has finally accepted a price of 44 pounds per share, representing a premium of about 50% of SABMiller's closing rate on 14 September, announced AB InBev in a press release.
The brewer portfolio of SABMiller, which includes the brands Pilsner Urquell, Grolsch, Foster's, Peroni and Miller, will go to AB InBev in a historic deal valued at about €96 billion.
The AB InBev shareholders still need to approve the proposal.
