10,000 hunt for sex toys in field near Namur
About 10,000 women (and 200 men) hunted for sex toys in a field in Wallonia on Sunday - a record turnout, with plans announced to expand the event to France.
The sex toy hunt in Wépion, now in its eighth year, has become something of a spring tradition. Visitor numbers this year may have been boosted by a religious controversy caused by press coverage in France - after Le Parisien newspaper claimed the event was linked to Easter.
The concept for this eighth edition remained the same: a four-hectare field, 800 buried boxes containing a numbered ticket to be redeemed for a sex toy, and thousands of treasure hunters - many in fancy dress - carrying spades.
Organiser Nicolas Bustin said that after the French press coverage, he hoped to bring the event to France in the near future. Meanwhile, if you missed this year's hunt in Wépion, 14 April 2019 is a date to put in your diary now.
