Winter conditions creating icy morning commute

With seasonal temperatures continuing to drop, the combination of overnight rain showers and cold is once again making for a dangerous morning commute. Motorists are being advised to take caution due to icy conditions along some of the country’s major routes and smaller roads. The dangerous mix of rain and sub-zero temperatures were to blame for fifty accidents on Friday morning, the majority in Belgium’s south and one just north of Brussels.

The provinces of Liege, Namur, and Luxemburg are expected to get a real taste of winter with snowfall expected.

Authorities are urging drivers to slow down as weather forecasts predict the thermostat will drop below the freezing mark throughout the week, along with periods of rain, making the slippery roads a continuing issue.
