Wildlife bridge helps animals cross Brussels ring

12:24 10/07/2013
A bridge is being placed today over the Brussels ring road to ensure that small animals can safely cross from one side of the Sonian forest to the other. The bridge will be added to the giant traffic signs between the Groenendaal exit and the border with the Brussels region.

The two sides of the Sonian Forest are now separated by the busy ring road, but the tubular bridge, suspended from ropes, will change this. The bridge is part of the defragmentation measures of the Flemish government, which is required to reconnect animal habitats that are separated by roads. The initiative not only enhances biodiversity, but also reduces the risk of potential collisions caused by the animals.

LOL... Will they ensure a sign board is placed, so that the animals can read the sign boards to cross over the bridge?

What would happen if the animals are not educated enough....

R.harris Kim is right these bridges don't work there is proof from studies that animals don't pass over on them often and they don't save animals lives. That said I've only seen a live deer by that road side once and that was at the jesus eik junction not at groendaal. It was stood less than a mater from the road eating. I've seen a few dead foxes on the ring over the years but no dead deer or rabbits. .What they really need to spend money on at that junction is changing the traffic lights to make the vehicles flow better because it's a terrible and causes congestion and pollution. The Forrest is huge and one bridge won't make any difference at all.
