Renaissance banquet, Peruvian culture and Irish song and dance...

This year's Carolus V Festival is putting an accent on gastronomy - and Family Day on 5 June is no exception. Visitors will be invited to take part in a Renaissance banquet with dishes based on centuries' old recipes. There will also be a zythology workshop (zythology is to beer what oenology is to wine) complete with tastings. Other Family Day events: learn how to play games from the Renaissance, design your own model of the Coudenberg Palace, dance Renaissance dances, learn how to shoot a crossbow, dress up in 16th century costumes and meet characters from the Ommegang.

Just a stone's throw from Tour & Taxis at the Molenbeek Maritime Community Centre, MolenBIKE will include two bicycle parades, bicycle repair, free workshops for adults and children, culinary spaces, bicycle celebrities including World Speed Champion Moreno Argentin, guided tours and apéros. Organised by most of the bicycle organisations in Brussels this will be a very comprehensive event.

Peruvian Cultural Day is a celebration of Peru’s rich culture and traditions, featuring food, music, dance and pisco brandy, as well as a photo exhibition and story corner for children, with proceeds going to support rural communities in the Andes.

The second annual Tradfest Belgium music festival, hosted by the Irish embassy, features traditional Irish music, dance and the Gaelic language, with 80 participants from five countries performing in more than 15 venues, particularly in the Irish pubs near Schuman.

The Brussels-based Italian singer-guitarist Giacomo Lariccia performs original chansons in his typical upbeat style.
4 June 22.00, Sounds Jazz Club, Rue de la Tulipe 28, Ixelles

The Milieufestival, a free festival for the environment, has a sustainable food theme and features two days of activities, including BEL Movie Day, a competition for films about the environment, and a “village” of environmental organisations in the park.
