What’s on this week: 11-17 November

18:55 09/11/2016
Brussels’ queer film festival, Belgian modernism and a tattoo convention. Here's our pick for this week...

A labour of love by the organisers, the 15th edition of the Pink Screens Film Festival celebrates alternative sexualities and genders through nearly 80 films, performances, an exhibition, workshops, gigs and parties. Back in the Cinema Nova as usual, with additional screenings at the close-by Cinema Aventure, the Pink Screens festival is also invited to the Beursschouwburg for the first time, where you will discover a selection of experimental short films (17 November) and a performance introducing the notorious Pink Night closing party (19 November). The films will take you from South Africa to Italy, the Czech Republic to India via Argentina and Pakistan to name just a few. This year, they will highlighting the AKS festival, the Pakistani trans film festival which is experiencing enormous difficulties to survive. Attractive bags with the Pink Screens logo will be sold in support of this festival.
10-19 November, across Brussels

Belgian modernism was truly a global phenomenon. Antwerp-born engraver Victor Delhez, whose pioneering work is celebrated with this retrospective exhibition, is but one case in point. Following a family tragedy, a young Delhez emigrated to South America, bringing with him the avant-garde aesthetic that permeated his native land in the 1920s. Once in Buenos Aires, the artist fused European abstract technique with the local realismo mágico. Of course Delhez maintained his ties to Europe, where he exhibited frequently during a career that spanned a half-century. This exposed European artists to New World influences and enriched the cultural life of both hemispheres.
Until 15 January, FeliXart Museum, Brussels

11-13 November, Avenue du Port 86C, Brussels; €15-€25

Victor Horta might be the most well known Belgian Art Nouveau Architect and Henri van de Velde may be the most respected, but Gustave Strauven is definitely the most daring, the most outrageous of them all. When he built his iconic Maison Saint-Cyr on Ambiorix Square, the borough of Schaerbeek tried to forbid him from building the gate he had in mind, so unusual was it (they failed). There's an exhibition on in the mezzanine of the Halles Saint-Géry that's aimed at the whole family that explains in a fun and personal way his genius and his body of work of more than 60 houses.
Until 28 November, Halles Saint-Géry, free

The first-ever exhibition of traditional Korean clothing, Hanbok, will be held in the Korean Cultural Centre. The Formal Hanbok Association of Korea is presenting the colourful and beautiful traditional clothing. The various costume designs reflect Korean history as well as the current formal attire worn during the four family ceremonies in Korea: coming-of-age ceremonies, weddings, funerals, and ancestral rites. All collections in this exhibition are costumes inspired by the fashions of the last Korea dynasty, Joseon. Discover an essential part of the traditional Korean fashion and way of life.
Until 21 January, Korean Cultural Centre, free

Bronks, Brussels' Dutch-language theatre for young people is presenting the Export/Import Festival - "a great big banquet of theatre, dance, circus, figure theatre and music" that transcends the boundaries of age and language. The mix of young performing artists, small companies and established names makes for a highly varied and rich range of events. And although the festival is officially in Dutch, French and English (depending on the show), 16 of the 25 spectacles are without words. Additional venues for the festival (all within walking distance) are Mariaboodschaplyceum, KVS and La Montagne Magique
November 10-13, Bronks

To my mind, the most interesting event would be a tattoo dedicated weekend. So many artists, amateurs, professionals, advanced writers who can write poems on your body with their tattoo machines... But what a price! For Christ's sake. All the rest are free, so it's obvious that mostly the students like me would choose the festival or something. This year was not so productive for me, so I can afford only the New Year party.

oh really, I plan to write my assignment about this topic. It seems to me that the emergence of new and creative ideas is something that is very small. Therefore, such ideas should be supported.
