Waterproofing wooden (pine) floor boards
is it inside or outside?
for inside: we re-oil 1 x per year, and we clean only dry with swiffer pads for wood. 1 to 2 times per year we are cleaning wet like 'using a damp, well-wrung out mop' - and we prefer sunny / windy weather for this type of cleaning, with windows well opened for a faster drying.
have the floor sanded and sealed. or sand it yourself to remove the oil and then varnish.
Possible solutions:
1. Use marine grade clear polyurethane. Sand the floor boards. Apply several thinned coats with a roller allowing 24 hrs between each coat and sanding back between each coat.
If the near final coat feels nice and smooth do the last rubbing back with OOO grade wire wool.
There is a choice of high gloss or satin depending on your preference - I prefer the high gloss as I think the satin looks permanently unclean! Result is stunning!
2. Sand down the floors and refinish them with oil based stain and polyurethane.
3. Use clear polyurethane caulk for the entire floor.
