Water bill

We got an extremely high water bill also compared to the previous years. Is there anything we can do about it? We didn't use more or less than before, we have two small children and are two adults. We normally paid around 450 Euros a year, now we received an additional bill of 1000 Euro. How much do you use with similar amount of people in the house?
