Walloon life expectancy lower than neighbouring regions

11:58 18/03/2013

Life expectancy in Wallonia is lower than that of all neighbouring regions, according to figures released by the World Health Organisation. With the exception of Walloon Brabant, all Walloon provinces have a lower life expectancy than adjacent regions. In Hainaut, women have a life expectancy of 81.4 years, against 82.9 years in neighbouring Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Similar gaps appear between life expectancies in Liège province and the Cologne region, or Namur province and Champagne-Ardenne. At Belgian level, life expectancy in Wallonia is two-and-a-half years less than in Flanders.
