Wallonia offers huge saxophone to New Orleans

22:16 04/04/2018

Wallonia has donated a giant colourful 50kg saxophone to New Orleans to celebrate the jazz city's 300th anniversary.

The three-metre-tall instrument has safely made its way across the Atlantic and will be unveiled on Bourbon Street this Thursday.

It required 60 hours of painting by Namur artist Dimitri Perpete, and the saxophone gift features the emblems of Namur, Dinant, Wallonia and New Orleans and a picture of Adolphe Sax, the instrument's inventor.

The artwork, which has been gifted to New Orleans by the Namur-Wallonie-Europe organisation, also celebrates 150 years of cooperation between Wallonia and Louisiana.
