Walking Football?
Walking football is becoming popular in the UK. Particularly as a means to encourage older people to exercise. Professional clubs like Bury, Blackpool, Southampton, Man City, Tranmere Rovers and others put on walking football as part of their work in the community. Some are even bringing teams to the Costa Blanca to play teams of ex-pats. Does this exist in Belgium?
Football en marchant in fact.
I read that RSC Anderlecht did a exhibition of it last year but apart from that, I haven't seen it anywhere in Belgium.
I've been thinking about this for sometime as I miss playing the game but I'm not physically up to the normal versions, indoor or outdoor. There is a solution though...
Let's organise a game - shouldn't be hard to find a space.
Perhaps Radio X can do a feature on it when they start.
HI, I had never hear of walking football until I read your question yesterday. And then this morning I stumbled across an article about it on a local news site. http://www.nieuwsblad.be/cnt/blhde_01733244 There is apparently a team in Lot. According to another article I just read there are 20 clubs in belgium and there will be a competition starting next year. Hope this helps. https://www.voetbalkrant.com/nl/nieuws/lees/2015-06-15/wandelvoetbal-wor... Sounds like a fun way to keep fit!
We are a group of 50-70 year olds in the UK who are trying to organise a walking football match in Flanders. We could use jumpers for goal posts if necessary, but we just do it for fun and exercise. We intend to travel from Hull to Zeebruges, stay in Bruges for two nights, play a commemorative game of walking football and visit Ypres and the Menin Gate before returning to the UK. Not only would this type event be very appropriate for the commemoration of the Great War, but would also promote the idea of exercise for older gentlemen. Anybody interested? 00441457 765255
