Vote for your favourite street art design for Simonis entry tunnels

18:05 06/04/2020

The public is invited to vote for their favourite street art design to decorate the public transport tunnels heading into the Simonis metro station. The winning murals will be painted at the mouths of the tunnels leading into the station via Avenue de la Liberté and Avenue de Jette.

Brussels Mobility and the municipality of Koekelberg put out a call a few weeks ago for streets artists to submit designs for the walls along the entry to the tunnels. A special committee whittled the 30 ideas submitted down to three for one tunnel entry and four for the other. It is now asking public transport users and Koekelberg residents to vote for their favourites.

“Voice your opinion because, even if you’re momentarily inside, the public space still belongs to you,” said Brussels mobility minister Elke Van den Brandt (Groen). “When the corona crisis is over and done with, we can get back to fully enjoying these fresh looks in public transport.”

Anyone can vote online until 24 April. Voters can see details of the designs, read about the artists and view renderings of what they will look like on the walls.
