20:00 11/10/2017

Stromae's 'Formidable' has been voted the best Brussels song of all time in a public poll conducted by the Flemish media group Bruzz.

With five songs, Stromae, aka Paul Van Haver, has the most entries in the top 100 which was broadcast to commuters in all the city's metro stations on Wednesday afternoon.

"Stromae is a bridge-builder between generations," said Bruzz head of music Sasha Van der Speeten. 'Alors On Danse' was the second most popular Stromae track, coming fourth.

In the Formidable video, which has attracted more than 180 million views on YouTube, Stromae wanders apparently drunk around Louise tram stop during the morning rush hour, while hidden cameras record the reactions of passers-by.

The top three was completed by Jacques Brel's 'Bruxelles' in second place and Toots Thielemans' 'Bluesette' in third.

Brussels' first statue of Jacques Brel was unveiled on Wednesday in downtown Brussels, at the Place de la Vieille Halle aux Blés. The bronze piece, entitled L'envol, was made by Belgian sculptor Tom Frantzen and unveiled by the city's alderwoman for economic affairs, Marion Lemesre.
