Upsetting news

I have just heard some rather upsetting news. There is a plan to remove 300 trees (planted in the 1920s), remove 1.5 million cobblestones in order to widen the avenue du port in front of the tour & taxi in central brussels. I am no social networking expert but is it possible to organize and voice outrage at this plan using facebook or twitter? I understand there is a petition being circulated but perhaps facebook would be faster and would result in greater numbers of people voicing their dismay.
