University of Leuven scores high in international ranking
The Quacquerelli-Symonds (QS) World University Ranking is one of the three main university rankings and is based on the academic reputation of the institutions, how often the work of the university is quoted and on the number of foreign students. Although its methods are often criticised for nonobjectivity, QS nonetheless remains an overall respected international ranking. The top three this year are the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), followed by Cambridge and Harvard. Leuven is the leading Belgian university at number 82, while the University of Ghent is 148th on the list, the French equivalent of the KU Leuven, the UCL is 127th, the French-speaking ULB in Brussels is 172nd and, finally, the Free University of Brussels also makes the top 200 at 189th place.
