UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS
Hello everyone,
I've been working in Belgium for over 7 years and a half. I changed jobs 6 months ago but its not going so well.
If I resign am I entitled to unemployment benefits after a while? I can imagine straight away you get nothing.
I am still in my trial period which is one year. I am just over 6 months.
Also if I resign any idea how long i need to give the company?
Thanks in advance!

No - if you resign, you do not get unemployment benefit, as you chosen to become unemployed.
You notice period will be defined in your contract. Normally, it will be a week in the trial period, but given that you have an exceptionally long trial period, you'll need to double check the contract to be sure.
Your best bet is to:
- Find another job.
- See if the company will give you a C4 (i.e. they terminate the employment, you get a C4, and you will be entitled to unemployment benefits)

Make sure that the C4 does not mention a faute grave... this means that you did something against company rules and they fired you under this specific status you will not be entitled to unemployment.
Of course a union can help you get unemployment but they will have to take it to court... they usually win but it takes a long time...
