Two-thirds of Belgians believe in EU membership

14:29 01/05/2017

Nearly two out of three Belgians (64%) believe that membership in the European Union is a good thing, according to a recent poll commissioned by the Parliament. Confidence in the EU is on the rise across the region, despite the recent Brexit decision, with 57% of Europeans saying they believe in the added value of Union membership.

Compared with the previous poll in September last year, the number of Europeans who support EU membership rose by four percentage points to 57%. Confidence in the European project has nearly returned to the same level as before the 2007 financial and economic crisis (58%), although these percentages vary significantly from country to country.

The latest Eurobarometer survey of Europeans' attitudes, conducted in March, polled 27,901 people in the 28 Member States, including 1,023 Belgians.
