Two Brussels pizzerias make European top 50

Two Brussels pizza restaurants have been voted among the best in Europe (outside of Italy) in a new poll.

Pizza Bella, on Rue Lebeau in the Sablon district, came 24th in the league table drawn up by 50toppizza, an Italian initiative supported by brands including San Pellegrino.

La Piola Pizza, on Place-Saint-Josse, was ranked 36th. An Italian jury tested out the candidates, with criteria including the quality of the dough, the crust and the freshness of the ingredients.

Pizza Bella says its menu is 100% Neapolitan, while La Piola prides itself in using DOP (geographically protected) products such as tomato sauce from Naples. The house specialty is the Sicilina o'Cornicione pizza, which has a crust stuffed with ricotta.
