Turkish demonstrator filmed using police megaphone at protest

19:03 20/07/2016

An investigation has been opened after police in Brussels were filmed allowing a protestor to use a megaphone attached to their patrol vehicle during a demonstration outside the Turkish embassy.

The 10-minute video has been viewed more than 215,000 times. The moment occurred during an anti-coup demonstration on 16 July in support of Turkish president Erdogan.

“An investigation has been opened to determine what the police might have done,” said Ilse Van de Keere, spokeswoman for the Brussels-Ixelles police.

"That night, our area received other police reinforcements, and even federal police. It is therefore impossible to say with certainty who the officers concerned are."

She added: "It is too early to talk of sanctions. The investigation will contextualise what happened."

As usual, it appears no one will be held responsible. CCTV, personal videos, and other sources should be used to find the policemen who allowed their megaphone to be used. They could start by the policemen driving that police car -- they should have not left the microphone "on". Belgians never ever want to punish or sanction anyone but use the excuse of the confusion between federal, regional, city, whatever. Nothing changes.
