Question

Another school question I'm afraid...

Both my children attend maternelle next to where we live in the north of Brussels. So far I've been very happy with the school, its small, friendly, clean, positive contact with the teachers etc but it only goes up to 3eme mat and the primary linked to this school is not so good 'it has a very poor reputation'.

We are also contemplating moving away from the north of Brussels, probably to the BW area (wavre) but this won't be for some time yet so my husband has suggested that instead of looking for schooling options in the north of Brussels (where we probably won't stay) we should consider WSL - as this is where he works and will continue to work even if we move..

We've got an appointment with 'parmentier' to visit the school: but a quick search on this website suggests that the school lacks in many areas and has been deemed unsafe - does anyone have children there that can give me the heads up.

I was also looking at St Jeanne de Chantal - again any helpful comments appreciated.

We are not looking for elite schools such as Mattei dai and we're not really fussed whether its Catholic or communal.

Thanks for any helpful advice!

WSL is not north of Brussels. Just where exactly are you?
Have you looked on tehe schools map I've linked to many many times and simply looked around the schools near where you live?
.
Some schools have already completed enrolments for next year so you need to move very quickly.
.
Is Parmentier actually near you or Ste Jeanne de Chantal? There are about 300 maternelles / primaires in Brussels, why these 2? Not there's anything wrong with them. Parmentier is NOT unsafe, the buildings which were unsafe have been evacuated and children in portakabins whilst the myriad of planning permissions are finalised to start construction of a new school. It lacks in the area of buildings, from the parents there, it lacks in nothing else. But if it's more than a couple of km from you, then it's too far, go for a school near you. Mater Dei an elite school? Well what is elite? It uber popular, that's for certain, but if you apply at the right time, you get a place, simple as that. The scondary admissions are done perfectly fairly and child X will be going there.
