Trio Balthazar to play Le Baixu in Brussels on 3 May
New chamber group Trio Balthazar - renowned for their vivacity, emotional depth and breathtaking playing - perform at Le Baixu on 3 May.
Since their launch at London’s Wigmore Hall in 2022, the musicians have appeared at prestigious classical music festivals across the UK as well as recitals in Italy and Belgium.
The violin, cello and piano trio comprises Michael Foyle, 2016 winner of The Netherlands Violin Competition, Tim Hugh, principal cellist of the London Symphony Orchestra, and acclaimed pianist Iain Burnside.
Together, they present a programme which blends renowned masterpieces with a more diverse repertoire.
On the programme for the upcoming Brussels concert are four pieces from four different centuries. Haydn’s elegance and wit contrast with Dvorak's full blown Romantic passion, while Shostakovich’s Trio speaks to us from the dark days of the Second World War. Meanwhile, the inspiration for Judith Weir’s poignant O Viridissima is the 12th-century plainsong of Hildegard of Bingen.
Haydn Trio in E minor Hob.XV:12
Judith Weir’s O Viridissima
Shostakovich Trio no 2, op 67
Dvorak Trio no 3 in F minor op 65
