Train derailed at Kortrijk station

A train derailed this morning around 8.20 upon leaving the station of Kortrijk in the direction of Mouscron, confirms rail infrastructure manager Infrabel. According to Infrabel spokesman Johan Vermant, the train was traveling at low speed when the accident happened. Twenty travelers were evacuated from the train and escorted back to the station on foot. There were no injuries. "The train's axle went off the tracks," says Vermant. "The train did not tip over. However, there is serious damage to the rail infrastructure. A technical team is on site to assess the damage."
