Train conductors could earn €100 less per month
Belgian rail company SNCB’s new ticket policy is not popular with the train attendants, who risk losing an average of €100 per month commission on the sale of tickets, reports Het Laatste Nieuws.
Since 1 February, SNCB encourages travellers to buy a ticket before boarding the train, while those who have to purchase a ticket after boarding the train pay a supplement of €7. The conductors are unhappy with the new policy, as they earn 1% commission on the sale of tickets on board.
"In 2013, SNCB paid €2.75 million in such commissions," says mobility minister Jacqueline Galant. The commission amounts to an average of €100 per month for the nearly 3,000 train attendants, on top of their wages. The employees are now at risk of losing that source of extra income.
