Tomorrowland’s second weekend may be in jeopardy

07:16 06/02/2014

Plans for one of the world’s biggest electronic music festivals to expand to two weekends in celebration of its 10th anniversary have hit a roadblock. Belgium’s Tomorrowland had been hoping to take advantage of its immense popularity by holding the event over two weekends instead of one in 2014, but residents of Schorre are having other thoughts.

Although complaints about the event are common, ranging from noise, drug use, and all-round annoyance, residents are now saying enough is enough after it was announced that the partying would be increased. The issue has now become a legal one with the community calling for the second weekend to be cancelled, and the first one to be calmed down.

Lawyers for the residents argue that the promoter does not have the sufficient permits to expand the event, and say they won’t be receiving them. The event that annually hosts more than 180,000, is scheduled to take place on the weekends of July 18-20 and July 25-27. The lineup is to be announced Wednesday and tickets will soon go on sale.
