Toddler activities and creches - Etterbeek near Woluve St Pierre

Question

We are considering renting a house in Etterbeek in the area near Woluve St Pierre.

We have a 2-year-old and I was wondering if there are open and/or indoor playgrounds in the area.

We will also be needing a creche where he can start as soon as possible. As newcomers, we are not in any waiting lists. Is there hope?

Lastly can you advise on using the metro with a toodler? Is this sth common in Belgium? We may get into a creche in the EU area at some point...

No. No hope other than another parent losing their job and creating a place, which right now is not looking likely.
You may get him into a school after Christmas or Easter. Though again, pressure on places is high and you're late for this school year.

> using the metro with a toodler?
Easy. Unless it's a station where there are RER works like Schuman.

I was also told of this experience of having to wait for creches for a long period of time, but my personal experience when I was searching for creches in around August last year, was that I found 3 private creches, all within 1km of our place in Schaerbeek, that were ready to take in my son immediately and one that advised about a six month wait time. I eventually waited a few months before taking my son to one 5 minute walk from our place, and still there was space. I'm not sure if this is normal, or is a matter of private vs public creches etc. So just go ahead and look around and call all the creches in your area (look online or just walk around the neighbourhood).

As for parks, we also found a few nice parks within walking distance, two with playgrounds for kids. And no problem with the metro, although I'd still suggest taking around a light weight stroller if your little one gets tired from walking.

Good luck.

There are quite a few branches of the KidsFarWest Creches around the Etterbeek/WDP area.

Have a look here:

Access to private creches is easy and immediate. Kids Far West is the best, according to me. They have 2 creches on avenue de Tervuren and right now there are places in both (info from last week). The monthly price is 650 EUR and it includes bio food.
What you have to see quickly is where you want to register your child for a matternelle. There might be long lists for a good Belgian school in the area, and the kid has to start at the age of 2.5 years.
EU institutions creches and schools are another matter, I don't know if you have the right to send your child there.
