Three hundred people commemorate Jo Cox in Brussels
About 300 people on Wednesday gathered in the centre of Brussels to commemorate the murdered British politician Jo Cox, the police reported. The initiative came from the Belgian friends and former colleagues of Cox, who would have turned 42 years old today. She was killed last Thursday near Leeds.
The memorial was held at Ancienne Belgique and Place de la Bourse on Wednesday evening between 17.00 and 19.00 in honour of the British Labour Party politician and MP.
The ceremony opened with a live video testimony from Cox's husband Brendan in London, followed by a minute of silence. At the end of the commemoration, a band escorted the participants to the steps of the Bourse, where they laid white roses with a picture of the politician. Jo Cox worked in Brussels for six years, at the European Parliament and Oxfam.
