Teachers assistant

Question

Hi,

Does teachers assistant exist in belgium schools? Or just in language class?

Trying to figure out if I have a chance to get a job in Belgium.

Thank you!

I

Yes they do, but in the form of "enseignante polyvalente" who will in fact be a teacher who could move between classes, sometimes teaching classes, sometimes taking a few children out of class to give extra targetted help, sometimes helping the class teacher, they are qualified teachers I believe. Then there is also the "puéricultrice" who has a maternelle level assistant qualification, will have gone to a specialist secondary like Reine Fabiola in Brussels and done a 7th professional year to qualify. They are sometimes left with maternelle classes, usually when the class teacher is out doing swimming lessons or is off ill, but most usually are with the "accueil" or M1 teacher, to look after the more personal needs of the children, to supervise sieste time, to help out the class teacher. If you don't have a qualification equivalent verfified by one of the language communities, then you'll only be able to work in the private schools outside language community control like BICS or Acacia or a recognised international school.
