Tax authorities investigate Google Belgium

23:25 09/08/2017

The Belgian tax authorities are investigating the financial activities of US internet giant Google in Belgium, reports Le Soir. Google's Belgian subsidiary confirms in its 2016 annual report that the authorities began an investigation last year into the company's 2014 and 2015 accounts.

In Belgium, as in England, France and Italy, most recently, Google is suspected of owing income and value added tax on billions of dollars of revenue generated from advertising.

The annual report further states that "Google Belgium is negotiating with the Belgian tax authorities so as to reach an accord."
