Supermarket cards

Question

Can you tell me whether there is an advantage of having a Carrefour card. We do a significant amount of shopping there. I have been reluctant until now as these cards are a way of getting your identity and address for commercial reasons.

Also Match became very expensive and I see many ladies using cards. Are they giving a discount for next shopping? Can somebody give an overview about the advantages and disadvantages of having these cards. Thanks in advance.

J

If you're paranoid about your privacy, then stick to the markets and use cash.

If you recognise that all sorts of people are gathering data from you all the time already, then you might understand that a supermarket card won't make a difference.

I've had a Carrefour card for several years.
The advantage is that I accumulate points which I can use to buy various items from time to time or I can redeem them for cash.
Without a card I couldn't.
Perhaps 3 times a year I get a letter from them with details of special offers which, in any case, are usually included in the weekly batch of advertising material that arrives in my mail box. There is no way that I have ever felt that they are taking advantage of having my name and address.
As J says above, unless you only use cash, a supermarket card will not make the slightest difference to your privacy.

Basically, by using a supermarket's fidelity card, you receive between a .5 and 1% reduction on everything you buy, in the form of points that are redeemed later.

You can collect points nd wen u reach 500, you exchange it for 5 euros that u spend on next purchase.. However if you are buying a common brand (unilever, p&g, etc) the prices in colruyt are much cheaper nd you can save. Much more than you actually earn by these fidelity card. My experience: fidelity card force you to buy things which you dont really need. I have used such cards but i realised i was spending much more...Better to do grocery shopping in colruyt where the prices are comparatively cheaper..

Main advantage is you can self scan and in a busy carrrefour that can cut down your que time dramatically. Delhaize do similar and their card is linked to DI bricco and Tom and co. Coloroyt also have a card that offers discount on some items.
